PP&L 2016 California Spring Trials
Our client, Pacific Plug & Liner (PP&L), is a mainstay at the California Spring Trials, CAST for short, the annual gathering of the horticultural industry’s elite. They’re also well known for going above and beyond to stand out among the dozens of other companies participating. BatesMeron plays a key role in this tradition, working alongside PP&L’s marketing team to make sure their turnout is high and their event turns heads.
Each year, we begin with a theme. This year was Havana Nights, a motif that calls to mind hot nights, a cool breeze and megastars like Beyoncé adopting the city as her vacation stomping ground. Won over by its syncopated Afro-Cuban rhythms and colorful street art, we gave the theme a super saturated look and feel with bold color blocking and juxtaposing patterns. The addition of wavy accents and palm fronds give the illusion of movement, energy and life.
Havana Nights is a theme that needs to leave an impression—and we wanted to make sure it did, right from the start. We chose an eye-popping orange envelope for the printed invitation, creating a piece of mail begging to be opened first. On the invitation itself, we supported our concept design with copy promising an experience every bit as unique as years past.
With two grey and overcast days kicking off the CAST festivities, Havana Nights was just the burst of sunshine PP&L and its guests needed. Main event and bench signage carried through the vibrant and playful attitude of our invitations, enticing attendees to take in the colorful, sultry ‘scentsations.’ Secondary signage showed off PP&L’s Planthology collateral and LinerBility catalog as guests explored everything on offer from PP&L in 2016. The result: another CAST dominated by budding smiles from guests and our client alike.
