Many members of the BatesMeron family have experienced the wild beast of the South: New Orleans. After this past weekend, I can also now say that I know this warm and welcoming city.
I ventured to Louisiana with a friend, and both being artists, we were looking forward to more than just Bourbon Street and Hand Grenades (although a few bottles of wine may have been emptied during our stay). I was delighted with all the city has to offer outside of its hottest attraction. We lazily strolled through street after street of brightly colored cottages, we photographed beautifully jeweled house addresses, stumbled on a few art fairs and were giddy over outdoor seating in January at numerous cafes.
The graffiti was thoughtful and bright, the street musicians were undiscovered prodigies. The night light completely transforms New Orleans into a whole new palette of electric tones and high shadows.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this playground of art and music and most definitely plan to return. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
