This winter, we’ve been been getting up close and personal for an RCN direct mail campaign. RCN prides themselves on great products, being a part of the neighborhood and 24-7 customer service accessibility. With that in mind, we developed this campaign to focus on relatable, real-life customers to capture the personality of the people who use RCN and why they love it.
Rachel and I have been going around Chicago and Skokie meeting volunteers, asking them a few questions about why they chose RCN and what it means to them, then doing a mini photoshoot. We take that information and turn it into beautiful direct mail pieces and send it to non-customers in hopes that they might make the switch to RCN. Each time we finish an interview we can’t help but be blown away by how natural and authentic they are. There are no gimmicks—these people really love the product. It’s never challenging to get a great quote and photograph that perfectly capture the customer’s satisfaction.
We’ve had a ton of fun getting to know these customers and why they chose RCN. Some customers have even ventured to say they won’t move anywhere that RCN doesn’t service. That got me thinking about products and services that I can’t live without:
My Cell Phone & Carrier
It never ceases to amaze me what my little phone can do. I can talk on the phone while browsing the Internet, make phone calls from miles out on the lake or in the mountains, keep in touch with friends in other countries and take incredible quality photos…I can do anything. Whenever I hear people complaining about their cell phone taking an extra second to send a text, I am reminded of Louis C.K.’s skit where he reminds us all:
Transit Buddy
The only way I get from Point A to B during these dreadfully cold months is the CTA, and this app helps me track arrival times so I don’t spend too much time waiting in the cold. I can add my most-used routes to a “favorites” list for quick access, locate the nearest stop, see upcoming arrival times and so much more! This app is a complete time-saver and an absolute must for commuters.
Royal Canin Cat Food
My cat, Rudy, eats better than I do because she is very allergic to most cat food brands. If it weren’t for this food, she wouldn’t be here today.
*She is also a model if you are interested.
My Tennis Shoes
Working out is a huge part of my life and it wouldn’t be the same with out my sneaks.
My Gavin Bicycle
When it isn’t polar vortexing outside, I ride my bike to work. It cuts my commute down by 40 minutes and promotes my mental and physical health.
My Vacuum Cleaner
I am a cleaning fiend and dust is my enemy! I couldn’t do it with out the incredibly loud, powerful suction action of my tiny little vac.

Instagram
I am glued to my feed and absolutely love looking at the cool photos from around the world. Find me at @sonnidelzani or check out some of my favorite Instragram-affiliated apps.
My Macs
My job would be a lot harder without compatibility of my phone, laptop and desktop to one another and the cloud.
Thanks to RCN and their very pleased customer base, we’ve had a ton of fun on this campaign and are looking forward to a whole lot more. I’m happy that this project made me aware about the brands that I love and depend on every day. What are some of the can’t-live-without products in your life?
