The topic of tattoos can be a tricky one. For years, I have wanted to get “inked,” and as I approach a final decision more closely, blogging for BatesMeron presents itself as an ideal opportunity to reflect on this long-standing form of artwork.
In a way, a tattoo stands as a personal brand on your body, supporting your story and promoting a specific image to the rest of the world. Here at BatesMeron, we work to build brands for different businesses everyday, so we understand the weight of projecting the right message. Similar to a logo or company name, a tattoo is an immediate marker of your personality. For business owners, choosing the right logo design, name and tagline is pivotal to the type of identity they want to create, clients they want to work with and talent they want to attract.
When working with clients in need of a new or revolutionized brand, we dig deep. This is a big decision! Part of our creative process includes an in-depth exploration of who the company is and what they want to achieve. It also includes personality building, which is what helps guide the look, feel and tone of an identity. This type of exploration allows both BatesMeron and our clients to reach the same foundational understanding of their story, which allows success moving forward in all brand creation.
As I think of this process paralleled with my own brand journey, I see the importance of reaching down into the core of who I am. I think about what parts of me are foundational and everlasting. Is my idea for a tattoo one that will remain true to who I am over time? Will it last through changing trends? After four years of consideration, I believe I have finally made a decision for my own form of personal expression. Shown here are a few inspirational pieces of what I have in mind, each reflective of a different side of me. Now, I just need to overcome my fear of needles and take the plunge.
What are your thoughts on making big, personal branding decisions? And how do you decide which “image” is the best fit. Let me know! (It just might help me make a final-final decision!)
