Exciting things are taking place, my friends! This week, I was assigned to collect design ideas for a new project—a logo for a series of workshops taking place at a well-known local business. I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but I’m so stoked for this opportunity.
Logos are so much fun to develop and create, but they’re deceptively difficult as well. They’re supposed to be memorable but not distracting, and tell an entire story without using many words. I find the best logos to be simple, smart and easy to understand. Some even have hidden messages in them, like the arrow in FedEx or the smiley face in Amazon.
Personally, I’m excited to see where my logo development goes. I’ve been gathering inspiration on Pinterest, and I already have some great ideas. Because this summer is all about trying new things, I’m pushing myself to try hand-rendered designs instead of purely digital. I’ve been inspired by a bunch of directions, especially mixing seals and banners with a little bit of hand-drawn whimsy.
Though I spent some time this week doing some research, my process is nowhere near finished. I am stoked to see how far I can get with this and where it goes. So far, I’ve experimented with sketching some ideas by hand and on the computer.
The best part about this early concepting stage is that there is no limit to the creative possibilities. Wish me luck and I’ll keep you posted!
Your intern,
Josey!
