Uplevyl – Branding, Marketing & Website
We’re Redesigning the World for Women.
That’s the bold mission Uplevyl embarked on in a world that wasn’t built for women.
As an exclusive platform with membership application requirements and vetted Contributors, Uplevyl assures users that the app is worth the download in an environment where new apps are plentiful but trustworthy content is scarce. They needed a voice, an image and way to tell the masses that Uplevyl is different. That’s where we come in.
SERVICES: brand messaging / naming / visual identity / brand collateral / website / social media strategy / video direction / ongoing marketing

To identify a voice for the brand, we first had to analyze the persona of the Uplevyl woman. Uplevyl was founded because brilliant, hard-working women were lacking the tools and resources they needed to prosper professionally. Other platforms existed for professional growth, but they didn’t solve the problem.
BMSD searched for parity across the existing market. We found everything Uplevyl didn’t want to be: stuffy, masculine, stark. We needed to carve out a space that made women feel welcome and supported without losing the polished and powerful tone of a truly valuable resource for future leaders.

Our designers identified a graphic style for the brand that balanced clean and professional with whimsical and feminine to perfectly encapsulate the Uplevyl woman.

The patterns are geometric and structured to add an edge (literally), while the color palette and patterns (wallpapers) go with the at-home theme used in the app (Living Rooms, Library, etc.) to create a warm and inviting environment. We couldn’t resist a little floral and greenery, so we strategically leveraged a global foliage selection to show the app’s reach and add a touch of natural beauty to break up the rigidness of email inboxes and social media platforms. At the same time, our copy team carefully crafted a unique brand voice to match.

The logo design represents the upward mobility achievable by women using the app. We tailored a script font to stand out from the sea of bland sans-serif marks in the tech world. The mark highlights Uplevyl’s elegance and femininity without dismissing the industry’s signature look-at-me boldness and legibility. The fonts on our marketing materials and throughout the app were created by female designers and chosen to be reminiscent of print magazines generally targeting women. But, instead of impossible beauty standards, these words promote empowerment.

Our team also designed custom icons for the app. Their refined but handmade look carried over to the illustrations, where we implemented a monoline style to signify the connectivity of the network of women in Uplevyl. These illustrations represent the user’s most significant milestones and play to the brand’s elegance and make the unimaginable feel attainable—because, with Uplevyl, it is.

Now it was time to debut Uplevyl and its mission
Our writers got to work creating the script for a promotional video that needed to speak to Uplevyl’s target audience, the women who are passionate about their mission of redesigning the world for women. Then, our designers created a simple and effective webpage to both display the video and direct users to the App Store.

While the app was in its final stages of prelaunch development, our creative team got to work building out the description and preview for the App Store. This would be our last chance to make an impression before the user would choose to download, so we needed to ensure it was a good one.

When the time came to launch the app, social media needed to roll out in tandem. We provided Uplevyl with a suite of designs, templates and graphic tools to seamlessly carry the look and feel of the app through to their social channels. Uplevyl’s social media acts as a way to tease those not on the app with content that drives them to the App Store. It’s also used to remind current members of the great resources they have access to.
