Well friends, I’m proud to say that your homegirl finished her first week of working at BatesMeron. Other than the name itself, BatesMeron has so many things that are special and well, SWEET!
1. Websites like Pinterest and Tumblr are accepted here.
I find myself spending many hours at home looking at images on Tumblr and Pinterest for fun or when I’m bored. Sometimes, I find great inspiration from those websites when I begin a new project. It’s so nice to work with a group of people who understand that browsing Tumblr and Pinterest is never EVER a waste of time!
2. There is no such thing as a bad idea.
What made me feel so connected and attracted to BatesMeron during the interview process—and now that I work here—is the team’s willingness to brainstorm together and share ideas in meetings. Collaborating and doing projects as a group was something that I’ve always known I wanted to be a part of, which is why I pursued graphic design in the first place! I’ve always been a fan of group projects, producing work together and achieving goals as a team. Sadly, I was never given the opportunity to be a part of such collaborations in school. With that said, I am thrilled to participate here at BMSD.
3. We like SWEETS.
Bringing cupcakes to work was the ticket to earn points from the team. I am totally joking about this—I absolutely did not bring sweets for the intention to making everyone like me. (Editor’s note: Whatever her intentions, it worked!—RS). However, I must say that cupcakes do the trick on Monday mornings. It was great to see all of us enjoy sweets, even at our 9 a.m. production meeting.
I could go on and on about how much I’m enjoying myself here, but I have to save something for the next blog. I don’t think many people can say the same about their internships, so I definitely lucked out. The people are wonderful. Everyone loves everyone, and these people know how to design. I’m a big believer in the BatesMeron motto and Manifesto. Y’all should take the time to look at it!
As for now, peace on the streets!
Your intern,
Josey
