Pacific Plug & Liner – ‘Camp Perennial’ California Spring Trials
CAST is a breed of tradeshow all its own.
One of the biggest events in horticulture each year, it’s the prime opportunity for retailers to scout out the cream of the crop from California’s highest profile growers. A harboring of the new growing season and the innovative plants that come with it, CAST is PP&L’s grounds for drawing interest and expressing their creativity through a new and exciting theme each year—and this year, we turned those grounds into campgrounds.

Starting with the event theme, we aimed to highlight PP&L’s new, curated collection of perennials and leave a lasting impression with attendees. During a fruitful brainstorming session, the concept of a lively weekend at summer camp took root, and Camp Perennial was born. It brings back the youthful excitement of a summer spent exploring and playing—and doubles as a playful way to explore everything PP&L has to offer.
To introduce Camp Perennial and generate excitement among the invitees, we created a printed flyer-style invitation that folds out to reveal a camp map, a handy packing checklist and light-hearted messaging for the adventure that awaits.
The hand-rendered quality of the typography and illustrations evoke the warm nostalgic memories of a classic summer camp.
Expanding on the vintage look and feel, we created signage for each of the featured perennials. Guests were given a helpful field guide to lead them through PP&L’s showcase. This booklet doubled as a way to collect plant merit badges, take notes and record explorations at Camp Perennial. We also created web sliders, social media headers and an eblast to promote the show online.
Our nostalgic theme was full of spirit thanks to the incredible work of the PP&L team, who embraced camp life and went the extra mile to wow guests onsite.

Throughout the event, attendees were welcomed by the staff, decked out in their own outdoorsy flair and polo shirts emblazoned with the Camp Perennial logo. The space truly looked the part with incredible plant displays that featured vintage camping gear, canoes and scout accoutrement at every turn. Giving their guests the true camp experience, PP&L even hosted a weenie roast and sent attendees home with enameled camping mugs as souvenirs.
Staff and visitors alike went all out participating in the lighthearted theme, leaving with fond memories of their stop at PP&L’s perennial showcase.
“BatesMeron helps us to distinguish ourselves from other young-plant companies. After working with them for a short while, I knew that we wanted to use them and stay with them long term. They were so professional. BatesMeron goes through a lot of detail to ensure that what they are producing is accurate. They helped keep me on time with my projects and always produce a great product. It is hard to imagine not wanting to work with them.”
