PP&L 2017 California Spring Trials
Every year we work with Pacific Plug & Liner (PP&L) to develop show-stopping themes and event collateral to wow their guests at California Spring Trials (CAST). In 2017, PP&L decided to break away from their traditional plant roster and focus solely on their perennial varieties.
We created a theme to highlight PP&L’s new, curated collection and leave a lasting impression with attendees. During a fruitful brainstorming session, the concept of a lively weekend at summer camp took root, and Camp Perennial was born. It brings back the youthful excitement of a summer spent exploring and playing—and doubles as a playful way to explore everything PP&L has to offer in 2017.
To introduce Camp Perennial and generate excitement among the invitees, we created a printed flyer-style invitation that folds out to reveal a camp map, a handy packing checklist and light-hearted messaging for the adventure that awaits. The hand-rendered quality of the typography and illustrations evoke the warm nostalgic memories of a classic summer camp.
Expanding on the vintage look and feel, we created signage for each of the featured perennials. Guests were given a helpful field guide to lead them through PP&L’s showcase. This booklet doubled as a way to collect plant merit badges, take notes and record explorations at Camp Perennial. We also created web sliders, social media headers and an eblast to promote the show online.
Our nostalgic theme was full of spirit thanks to the incredible work of the PP&L team, who embraced camp life and went the extra mile to wow guests. Attendees were welcomed by the staff, decked out in their own outdoorsy flair and polo shirts emblazoned with the Camp Perennial logo.
The space truly looked the part with incredible plant displays that featured vintage camping gear, canoes and scout accoutrement at every turn. Giving their guests the true camp experience, PP&L even hosted a weenie roast and sent attendees home with enameled camping mugs as souvenirs.
We are so thrilled with how the staff and visitors alike participated in the lighthearted theme and enjoyed their stop at PP&L’s perennial showcase. We love working with PP&L each year to develop their CAST theme and are already brimming with ideas for next year’s event.
