Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.
– Edward de Bono
As a group of writers, designers and just plain crazy-fun individuals we are always hungry for new inspiration, original approaches and all things fantastic or unusual. This is our creative fuel.
Some days we find our fuel in an interesting book, other times it wakes us up in the form of a new album or sound. It can come from museums trips, Pinterest wormholes, yoga, puppies, Trader Joe’s aisles, stand-up sets or bike rides.
By far, my favorite way to flip the script on my brain is through travel. Be it a simple, impromptu afternoon spent exploring a different neighborhood in my own city, or an exotic weeklong excursion to some place completely foreign. Traveling for me, although typically very poorly planned, is necessary for renewing curiosity and helping to cultivate a quarry of experiences from which to carve out new creative ideas.
This summer and fall, each BMSD’er has at least one fun excursion lined up that will promote creativity, rouse new ideas from the sleeping corners of our minds and refresh our day-to-day routines…all while deepening our tans.
Take a sec to see if you can connect the trip (and location-inspired color palette) with the right team member.
